Fashion Guide for Summer Hats

Summer Hats | Style Guide and What to Wear Inspiration

Fashion What to Wear

Every summer, my favorite fashion statement piece is a great big hat! This practical accessory can elevate your look for fancy events, or punctuate your athletic side. Big, small, casual, or outrageous, it is all in the hat and how you style it.

I am fair skinned with light eyes, so hats are a big part of my wardrobe, especially in the summer outdoors. Casual, formal, or just for fun, hats can add style and whimsy to any outfit, plus they provide added protection from the sun.  Hats are one of my favorite accessories!

Casual Hats

Casual Fedora

Fedora hats look great on everyone and are the workhorse of hats. They can be worn in almost any situation and look great! Plus the added bonus that they do not take up too much space in your closet or luggage.

Style your fedora by switching out the ribbon on the brim for different looks or to match a specific outfit. Add a silk flower for spring to match a dress or your mood. The fedora is a perfect mix and match accessory for any casual look!

Cloth Fedora

Straw or paper/cotton blend fedoras are the perfect tropical twist for spring dresses and swimsuit cover ups. Cloth fedora hats are often paired with shorts & tees and can be worn through fall.

The small brim fedora style hats are a good option for windy areas.  And the small size is perfect when you simply do not have the space for anything larger.

Many ladies like the traditional baseball hat, which are darling with a pony tail.  Go for a bold color and some sparkly embellishment.

Baseball hats are a fun way to show support for your favorite sports team, and a fun souvenir from landmarks and travel as most gift shops will have some in stock.

Cloche hats were very popular in the roaring ’20s and are stylish year round. These demure hats are a fun option for Easter dresses or an Instagram worthy fashionable picnic.

Formal Hats

The large brim Derby style hats are fun for outdoor weddings, picnics, beach days, and of course the Kentucky Derby!

The large derby style hats are such a fun addition to a pretty print sun dress, simple maxi dress, or bikini anytime! I love the bold, bright colors with flower and feather accents to add extra flair to any outfit.

The bigger, the better! Sheer organza with embellishment on the brim offers protection over your eyes in a lightweight hat that will not weigh down on your head.

Cotton, silk, linen, and other natural fibers are best for fabric hats. They will stay cool and block the sun better than sheer organza.
